Rainbow - one of the perks of rain

Well, it looks like our long awaited - short lived summer is nearing its end. Yesterday we had mostly showers with intermittent sun breaks. However, on my way home, one of the perks of rain showed itself.

Fishing at sunrise

Another fabulous surise this morning at the ferry terminal. There were also quite a few fishermen out on the water...looked like the two guys in this boat were trolling for salmon.

Sailing in Elliott Bay

Beautiful day for sailing in the sound. Lately I have been wondering why so many sailboats are so close to the ferry lanes though. I mean, the ferry boats are farily large and leave a huge wake. Seems like they would be pretty disruptive to a smaller vessel under wind-power that is not able to move quickly to get out of the way.

Break in the Bullpen

Thought we'd check out the bullpen action during the 8th inning. The reliever had just finished warming up, giving the catcher a little break. On the bench is Eddie Guardado, the Mariners awesome closer...but with an 11-1 lead, the Mariners gave him the night off.

Grand Slam in the 1st

Matt, Ben, and I were sitting in the stands, enjoying the game when the Royals started loading up the bases with Mariners. With bases loaded, Matt and I decided it would be very cool to see a grand slam as neither of us had seen one live and in person before. And wouldn't you know it...second pitch to Adrian Beltre was thrown and he belted it over the left field fence. What a game!!

Cold Play Concert

Cold Play was another work concert, the last of the season we need to measure. This time I was not at the control booth during the show, but did catch some of the opening act before going to the neighborhood. Pretty mellow as far as sound levels but a good show, from what I could hear, lol.

Sunrise in the Sound

It is about that time of year that the sun rises just before the ferry leaves the dock...not a bad way to start off the day.

Allison Krauss and Union Station

Went to the Allison Krauss and Union Station concert last night at Marymore Park in Redmond. They are great performers and put on a wonderful show. Periodically throughout the show, Allison would start telling stories about the band members...so funny. And for such a soft spoken woman, she sure can belt it out...just incredible. We had also not ever been to Marymore Park before...something like 700 acres just spitting distance from Seattle. The park has a handful of baseball diamonds, ducks and geese, and the band said they even saw a rabbit...how cool is that?!?

Sekiu Salmon

After spending Saturday morning navigating the rough waters in Neah Bay, and then not having any luck during the Saturday evening fishing in Sekiu, it was great to finally get some pink salmon in the boat on Sunday. Matt and I landed 5 pinks...plenty enough for some great dinners and to smoke.

Fog like soup

Not only were the seas rough, but there was quite a thick blanket of fog all around Neah Bay. This shot of the sailboat is actually a color photograph.

Fishing Sign

This amusing sign was posted on the side of the deep freeze cooler at Neah Bay.

More of the fishing fleet

Some of the boats that fish out of Neah Bay are really quite large. And according to the names and locations painted on the hull, they come from as far away as Alaska and California with plenty of local Washington and Oregon fishermen to boot.

Neah Bay fishing boats

Had some rough seas while trying to fish Neah Bay this time. Just about all of us were not feeling well at one point or another...and some much much more than others (poor Ed). And no fish to show for it all either! However, with most of the boats moored to the docks, was able to capture photos of lots of boats...I really plan on doing something with them at some point, like frame some and hang them up in the house (probably should do that soon before I lose my motivation, lol).

Cruise Ship

More people in the sound...huge cruise ship docked in Seattle.

Parasailing over the Space Needle

The weather has been so nice lately that many people are taking advantage of our proximity to the Puget Sound. This picture was taken from the ferry looking back to Seattle.

Big 'ole sailboat

Saw this big ole sailboat near coleman dock in downtown seattle. Looked like some kind of tour...probably 20 or more people onboard.

Tree house has walls!!!

Tree house construction continues!! Tory and Jacob built the walls on the deck and it took three guys (with Jacob supervising) to hoist them onto the platform and secure them in place. Now for the roof...
